Electricity Exports Overtake Imports in Iran

TEHRAN – Iran Power Grid Management Company data show that the energy balance of Iran’s power imports and exports turned positive in the previous Iranian year that ended on March 20, and consequently, the amount of electricity exports exceeded imports by 533 million kilowatts.
The company put the rate of Iran electricity exports in 1401 (March 21, 2022 to March 20, 2023) at 4.577 billion kilowatts.
Accordingly, Iran exports its electricity mainly to Iraq, Armenia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Iran imported 4.44 billion kilowatts of electricity last year (March 21, 2022 to March 20, 2023) from the neighboring countries, including Turkmenistan, Turkey, Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Under the government of President Ebrahim Raisi who has focused on regional diplomacy, the trade of electricity has been put atop economic agenda with a focus on the regional countries.
