First Hamid Enayat International Award Held
TEHRAN -- The 1st edition of International Award of Hamid Enayat was held by Center for Scientific Research and Strategic Studies of the Middle East in collaboration with several universities, independent scientific associations on Monday.
The award has been named after prominent Iranian scholar, political scientist and translator Hamid Enayat who is believed to be the father of political science in Iran. The event will be held annually and prizes will be granted to top researchers of the Middle East studies.
The award ceremony was attended by several academics such as Farhang Rajaei (Carleton University, Canada), Hamid Ahmadi (Tehran University), Muhammad-Javad Gholamreza Kashi (Allameh University), Hussein Dehoshiyar (Allameh Tabatabai University), Assadullah Athari (Middle East Strategic Studies Research Institute) and with Abdul-Amir Nabawi as the Scientific Secretary of the award.
A knowledgeable and prolific author and translator, Hamid Enayat (1932-1982) studied at London School of Economics and Political Science and then University of London where he received his PhD in politics in 1962.
He was a visiting professor at Khartoum University in the Sudan in 1965-66 and returned to Iran in 1966 to become the associate professor of political science at Tehran University. In 1980 he was appointed Lecturer in modern Middle-Eastern history and Fellow of St. Antony’s College at Oxford, a post he held until his death.
Among Enayat’s numerous works are ‘Modern Islamic Political Thought’, ‘Culture of the East: A Collection of Articles’.
