Yemeni Political Parties, Scholars Condemn U.S., British Military Presence
SANA’A (Dispatches) – Multiple Yemeni political parties and scholars have come forward to condemn the U.S., British, and Zionist moves in southern Yemen, citing the threat they pose to Yemeni sovereignty and the country’s people, according to Almasirah news network.
The Alliance of Political Parties and Forces against Aggression Executive Board issued a statement expressing its opposition to the U.S. and British visits and movements in southern and eastern Yemeni territories.
The board described the visits as an embodiment of external aggression and occupation of Yemeni lands, and a betrayal of national sovereignty by mercenaries who recruit themselves in the service of the country’s enemies.
The statement affirmed support for the position of Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi and his call for the battle of liberation and comprehensive independence to continue.
Similarly, the Southern National Front for Confronting the Invasion and Occupation warned of the dangers of the U.S.’s repeated visits to Hadramout and al-Mahra governorates. The group argued that the U.S. presence in Yemen violated international norms and was a continuation of American colonial moves in the southern governorates.
The Yemen Scholars Association also condemned the U.S. Fifth Fleet Commander’s visit to al-Mahra and the Zionist presence on Abd al-Kuri Island. The Association called for Yemenis in both occupied and free areas to unite, close ranks, and fight against the invaders. The scholars affirmed the Yemeni people’s right to target foreign presence and called on the international community to condemn the U.S. military interventions that violated international laws.
The U.S.’s recent military moves in al-Mahra and Hadramout have escalated significantly, and the U.S.’s efforts to thwart peace efforts and circumvent the demands of the Yemeni people and the requirements for a solution have only increased.
According to an article published in late February by Huffpost, the Yemeni people are facing multiple threats as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continue to interfere in Yemen’s political affairs. In particular, the UAE has been accused of supporting separatist movements in southern Yemen, while Saudi Arabia has been criticized for its airstrikes and blockade that have contributed to the country’s humanitarian crisis. Meanwhile, the presence of foreign troops, including American and British forces, in Yemen’s eastern province of al-Mahra has sparked concerns about potential violations of Yemeni sovereignty and the exploitation of the region’s resources.
