Chinese Diplomat Meets Iranian Envoy in Kabul
TEHRAN – The special envoys of Iran and China for Afghanistan have discussed cooperation between Tehran and Beijing to ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Hassan Kazemi Qomi, who also acts as the caretaker ambassador of Iran to Kabul, met the Chinese foreign ministry’s special envoy on Afghan affairs Yue Xiaoyong in the Afghan capital.
In a post on his Twitter account, Kazemi Qomi said he held a “cordial and constructive” meeting with the Chinese envoy in order to implement decisions made during Iranian President Ebrahim’s Raisi’s recent visit to Beijing.
He said negotiations focused on the promotion of cooperation between Iran and China with the purpose of ensuring sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Last week, President Raisi paid a landmark visit to China, during which a number of agreements were signed by the two sides.
In a joint statement issued at the conclusion of the presidential visit, Iran and China help the United States and NATO responsible for the current situation in Afghanistan.
They also urged Afghanistan’s current rulers to form an inclusive government with the meaningful participation of all ethnic and political groups and eliminate discrimination against women and ethnic and religious groups.
