Iran Rallies Deal Enemies ‘Strategic Shock’

TEHRAN -- The Islamic
Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) on Sunday lauded the Iranian nation’s massive turnout in Saturday rallies to mark the 44th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution, saying protecting the country’s national interests and meeting people’s needs are its clear-cut strategy.
In a statement, the IRGC said the “enthusiastic and admirable” participation of millions of people in the rallies once again challenged the enemy’s miscalculation concerning Iranians.
It noted that safeguarding the country’s “national interests and responding to the needs of the people and the government are a definite and inescapable strategy of this revolutionary and popular institution.”
It said the delusional enemies faced a “strategic shock” and a “humiliating defeat” following the glorious presence of the Iranian people in the rallies, particularly given the enemies’ efforts to provoke despair and prevent Iranians from attending the march.
The IRGC forces are fully aware of the enemies’ covert and overt conspiracies aimed at making the country focus on minor issues and pay no heed to people’s problems, it said.
The statement, however, declared the defeat of the enemy’s strategy in this regard, commending the nation’s understanding, rationality and wisdom and vowing to proceed with efforts to serve them in various fields.
The mass rallies on the 22nd of Bahman in the Iranian Calendar, which falls on February 11, are held each year with tremendous patriotic fervor in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Iranian nation overthrew the despotic regime of Pahlavi, which was fully supported by the United States, in the winter of 1979. The struggle against the Shah’s regime reached full fruition on February 11, 1979.
By December 1978, millions of Iranians had taken to the streets on a regular basis to protest the policies of the Shah, Muhammad Reza Pahlavi.
Ten days before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini had returned to Iran from exile and was received by millions of people weeks after the departure of the Shah in mid-January 1979.
The collapse of the Pahlavi regime became certain on February 11 when the military renounced its loyalty to the Shah and joined the revolution.
