Foreign Ministry: German Chancellor’s Analogy ‘Spiteful’

TEHRAN -- Iran on Monday rapped the latest
interventionist remarks by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during his visit to Argentina, describing them as “spiteful” and “amateurish.”
“Through an amateurish and spiteful analogy, the German chancellor proved once more that he is still standing on the wrong side of history,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said.
During his second day in Buenos Aires on Sunday, Scholz drew a parallel between Argentina’s 1976-1983 dictatorship and Iran’s handling of recent foreign-backed riots.
“The true historical parallel to be drawn here is the rise of modern extremism in Germany, the result of which ... has been nothing but fomenting of violence and hatemongering, but this time under the guise of human rights instruments,” the Iranian diplomat said.
He added that certain individuals use the project of obtaining “power through human rights” in order to
portray a positive image of themselves and to even claim that they are a pioneer of such a movement, emphasizing that such approaches are doomed to failure.
Kanaani also called on the so-called advocates of human rights to address the brutal crimes that the Israeli regime has committed against Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp and elsewhere across the occupied West Bank in recent days, lamenting that German authorities have refused to mention even a single word in condemnation of the brutal acts of the Zionist regime.
