Leader: Plot Failed Due to Enemies’ Miscalculations
TEHRAN -- Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says the enemies recently attempted in vain to rally the Iranians behind their plot to overthrow the government and disintegrate the Islamic Republic.
The enemies “imagined that the Iranian nation would support their plot of subversion and secessionism due to their economic problems”, Ayatollah Khamenei told eulogists and religious poets here Thursday.
“The enemies’ plot was comprehensive, but it failed due to their miscalculations,” the Leader said.
The enemies, he said, used all the means and elements that are required to disrupt and destroy a country.
“There was an economic factor, since the economic situation of the country was not and is not in a good shape. Hence, the people’s problems with the cost of living provided the grounds for them to use this factor.
“Other elements of disruption included security factors, infiltrations, espionage teams and Iranophobic campaigns by the world arrogance, using various ways and methods of propaganda.
“They also incited certain elements inside the country to accompany them, provoked different ethnic, religious, political, and personal motives and made use of widespread propaganda. But despite this, they failed because their calculations were wrong,” Ayatollah Khamenei said.
The Leader elaborated on the miscalculations of the enemies who thought because of the economic problems, the Iranian nation would cooperate with their plans of subversion and separatism.
“The enemy thought that by using foul language and insults they would be able to make the country’s officials passive and get them out of the scene. They thought they could create divisions among the country’s high-level officials through temptations and chaos.”
The enemies, Ayatollah Khamenei, though that they could undermine the Islamic Republic’s determination with the help of petrodollars doled out by a U.S. puppet regime.
“They thought that by inciting some mercenary elements to seek asylum in another country and by encouraging them to smear Iran, our youth would become disgruntled. They were mistaken, because the will and determination of the Islamic Republic was stronger and more adamant than all the elements of their power.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said the enemies have been doing whatever they can against the Islamic Republic for the past 40 years, but because their calculations have been
wrong, they have failed and they will continue to fail in the future.
The Leader said although there are differences in taste and opinion in the country, there is still a consensus among the people about Islam, the government and the Islamic Revolution.
“So, it is important not to lose this unity and not to contribute to ethnic and religious discord by instigating the sentiments of one group against another.”
Ayatollah Khamenei, however, warned that the enemy’s miscalculations should not a reason for complacency, calling on the nation to remain vigilant and maintain its unity and hope.
Ayatollah Khamenei stressed the importance for the country to build strength as the main factor that demoralizes the enemies.
“When we become so strong that the enemy becomes frustrated, we can achieve peace of mind,” the Leader said.
Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Anyone who harms the unity of the nation has served the enemy and played in its court and according to its plan.”
