Students Protest Outside UN Mission in Tehran

TEHRAN -- A group of
Iranian students and social activists gathered outside the UN office in Tehran to protest the double standards of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
They carried placards in condemnation of the UN’s contradictory behavior in addressing women’s rights in Iran, calling it an example of the West’s double standards with regard to women.
“When only five countries possess the right of veto in the UN Security Council, we do not see justice from the UN and we should not believe the lies of the western media,” Press TV’s documentarian and journalist Marzieh Hashemi told the gathering.
She said that the UN has never been seeking justice.
The French satellite company Eutelsat cut the network a few weeks after the European Union imposed sanctions against the English-speaking news channel Press TV.
In the US, more than one in three women and one in four men have experienced either physical violence, rape, or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Victims are commonly abused by those who are closest to them.
Each day in the United States, over 20,000 calls are placed to domestic violence hotlines by individuals reporting incidents.
Yet, the UN Security Council plans to remove Iran from the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
