Document: Settlers Act as Snitches to Oust Palestinians From West Bank
WEST BANK (Dispatches) –
Zionist settlers are actively reporting any Palestinian construction work in the occupied West Bank to the occupying regime’s local authorities, in an effort to dispossess Palestinians, according to Israeli media on Monday.
An internal official document obtained by Haaretz newspaper showed a close cooperation between settlers and the regime’s so-called civil administration to report any work carried out by Palestinians.
The document lists 1,168 tip-offs from Zionist settlers through an online platform in the period between March 10 to October 19.
“Digging a well,” “Arabs are planting trees,” and “massive construction on and preparation of plots of land” were among the forms of the settler reporting against Palestinians.
“The internal document also provides yet another glance at the intense involvement of settlers in the Civil Administration and Israeli army operations, from evictions of Palestinians from most of the territory of the West Bank, and the prevention of their construction and infrastructure work, to the meticulous effort to ensure that they do not exceed the bounds of the enclaves Israel has allocated to them,” the document said.
The report comes as the Zionist regime’s municipality in occupied Al-Quds has ordered the demolition of several Palestinian homes in the al-Bustan neighborhood.
The regime authorities have decided to demolish one of the homes, despite the fact that it was erected 30 years ago, on the grounds that it lacks a building permit. Palestinians in the occupied city very seldom, if ever, receive permits, the Safa news agency reported.
Such demolitions, in the words of Fakhri Abu Dyab, a member of the Silwan Neighborhood Defense Committee, are “part of Israeli policy aimed at curbing Palestinian expansion and progress in occupied Al-Quds.” He emphasized that before posting the demolition orders on the walls of the targeted structures, municipality officials collected photographs and measurements of the dwellings and roads inside the Palestinian neighborhood.
Abu Dyab predicts that the incoming far-right Zionist coalition cabinet will be much harsher than the current administration regarding the demolition of Palestinian homes and the Judaization of Al-Quds.
The whole al-Bustan neighborhood is subject to a demolition plan, and its case has been in Israeli courts. It lies 300 meters south of Al-Aqsa Mosque and is part of the larger neighborhood of Silwan.
Commentators accuse the Zionist regime of using such house demolitions to further the ethnic cleansing of occupied Al-Quds.
