Iran, Tajikistan Ink Over 25 Cooperation Documents

TEHRAN – Iranian Minister of Energy Ali-Akbar Mehrabian has said that his country and Tajikistan have signed 25 cooperation documents in a joint economic cooperation commission over the past year.
Mehrabian, who chaired the Iran-Tajikistan Joint Commission committee on the Iranian side, made the remarks after the commission convened for the 15th time in the Iranian capital.
He said that in the commission meeting, the two countries reached different agreements in various areas including free trade zones, high education and cultural heritage, health, food, transportation, agriculture, communications and technology, oil and oil products, energy, water and environment.
The minister referred to Iran’s experience in constructing Sang toodeh power plant in Tajikistan and said that the power plant is now operating in full capacity, providing electricity to Tajikistan and other surrounding countries.
He said that the volume of trade between Iran and Tajikistan has tripled and is expected to continue with its growing trend.
Strengthening the bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, sciences, cultural heritage, handicrafts and tourism, culture, healthcare, labor and social welfare, etc. were stressed by the two sides.
In addition, Iran and Tajikistan also emphasized expanding and developing mutual interactions, enhancing trade and commercial activities, and boosting cooperation in the industrial, customs and banking sectors.
Accordingly, some cooperation agreements were inked between Iran and Tajikistan in the fields of banking, energy, transport, education and agriculture.
The development of Tajikistan infrastructures for generating electricity using the technical know-how of Iranian companies was also put atop the agenda.
Also, the two sides agreed to hold specialized and exclusive exhibitions, participate in international exhibitions and sending and admitting trade missions.
The 15th Iran-Tajikistan Joint Economic Cooperation Commission kicked off in Tehran on Monday aimed at enhancing and strengthening mutual cooperation on the relevant fields.
