President Raisi Congratulates Kazakh Counterpart
TEHRAN -- Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated Kassym Jomart Tokayev over his re-election in Kazakhstan’s presidential election, calling for expansion and deepening of relations in all fields.
Raisi expressed hope that in the new term, as in the past, and in light of the joint cooperation of the officials of the two friendly and brotherly countries, the two sides will witness further deepening of relations.
Tokayev traveled to Iran in August at the official invitation of President Raisi.
The Iranian president’s first meeting with his Kazakh counterpart was held on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Tajikistan last year.
Tokayev received more than 81% of the votes in Sunday’s election, according to elections commission chairman Nurlan Abdirov. Five candidates were on the ballot against Tokayev.
Tokayev has pushed through reforms that included strengthening the parliament, reducing presidential powers and limiting the presidency to a single seven-year term.
