Iran Voices Solidarity With ‘Brotherly’ Turkey

TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian on Monday condemned a deadly bombing attack in Istanbul, expressing sympathy with the Turkish government and people.
In a post on his Twitter account, Amir-Abdollahian offered his sympathy to the “friendly and brotherly” Turkish government and nation over the terrorist bombing in central Istanbul that left at least eight people dead and scores of others wounded Sunday.
“We strongly condemn the terrorist act and the targeting of innocent people in Istanbul,” he stated.
The foreign minister said terrorism is condemned and abhorrent wherever it may occur, be it in Istanbul’s Taksim, in Shah Cheragh shrine in Iran’s Shiraz, or anywhere else in the world.
“We stand by the side of the friendly and brotherly government and people of the Turkish republic,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani earlier said, wishing speedy recovery for those who were wounded in the tragic incident.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the incident bore the hallmarks of an act of “terror.”
The Turkish president pledged that the perpetrators of the attack would be punished.
“Our people can rest assured that the culprits behind the attack will be punished as they deserve,” he said before his departure to the Group of 20 (G20) summit in Indonesia.
