Hans Christian Andersen’s Fairy Tale Adaptation Available in Persian

TEHRAN (IBNA) -- Persian translation of an adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘Mermaid’ by ‎British theatre director and playwright Polly Teale has been published.‎
Originally printed by Nick Hern Books in 2015, ‘Mermaid’ has been translated into Persian by Mazdak Bolouri. Ney Publishing in Tehran has released the play in 91 pages.
A bold reimagining of Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of love, loss and desire, transported to a contemporary setting. Beneath the ocean’s waves, there is no death or pain or separation. Above, the modern world is beset with war, poverty and desire. On her sixteenth birthday, a mermaid rises to the surface and falls in love with a mortal prince.
Polly Teale is the Artistic Director of Shared Experience. Her plays include Mermaid (based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen), ‘Mine’, ‘Speechless’, ‘After Mrs. Rochester’ (winner of Time Out and Evening Standard Awards), ‘Brontë’, and an acclaimed adaptation of ‘Jane Eyre’.
In 2002, Teale directed a production of Helen Edmundson’s award-winning play The Clearing at the Tricycle Theatre. In 2012, she directed Edmundson’s ‘Mary Shelley’, which was produced by Shared Experience on tour, including at the Tricycle Theatre and the Liverpool Playhouse.
