English Readers to Enjoy Avicenna’s Treatise ‘Nafs’

TEHRAN (IBNA) -- The
English translation of Persian treatise ‘Nafs’ by the prominent Iranian ‎polymath Ibn-e Sina, commonly known in the West as Avicenna has been accomplished ‎and is ready to be published.‎
Translated into English by Behnam Khodapanah, ‘Nafs’ is a treatise from the encyclopedia ‘Daneshnameh-ye Alai’ is a comprehensive book on seven sciences grouped into four sections: logic, metaphysics, natural science and mathematics. The original section on mathematics was lost in Avicenna’s lifetime.
Such translations are important since Avicenna is known in the west through his works in Arabic and introducing his Persian works can shed s new light on his vast knowledge and ideas.
The Iranian polymath Avicenna is regarded as one of the most significant physicians, astronomers, philosophers, and writers of the Islamic Golden Age and the father of early modern medicine.
He was a Muslim Peripatetic philosopher influenced by Greek Aristotelian philosophy. Of the 450 works he is believed to have written, around 240 have survived, including 150 on philosophy and 40 on medicine.
