Greco-Roman Wrestler Gerai Wins Silver in Serbia’s World Championships
TEHRAN, – Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler Muhammad Reza Gerai has won silver at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships in Serbia, bringing the first medal for his country at the international event taking place on September 10-18.
Gerai lost to his Serbian rival 4-5 in the 67 kg event in the final.
The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler qualified for the final after defeating competitors from Kyrgyzstan, South Korea and Georgia.
Gerai won gold in the men’s 67 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Japan’s capital Tokyo.
A year earlier, he also won gold in the 72 kg event at the Asian Wrestling Championships, and in 2018 he won bronze in the men’s 67 kg event at the Asian Games that took place in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta.
And also, Muhammadhadi Saravi won a bronze medal in the 97kg category at the event.
He defeated Turkey’s Metehan Başar 6-1 in the bronze medal match on Monday.
