Army to Hold Drill on Fighting Terrorism

TEHRAN – Commander of the Iranian Army’s University of Command and Staff unveiled plans to stage a war game to practice fighting against terrorist groups.
Addressing an event on the beginning of the new academic year of the military university on Sunday, Brigadier General Hussein Valivand said 260 Iranian officers and 18 others from foreign countries, including Pakistan, Tajikistan, Iraq, Oman and India, have enrolled in this year’s classes.
He said various war games have been planned to train the officers of the university in practical strategies.
In separate comments on the sidelines of the event, Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi said a broad range of new equipment and methods are used in war games held by Iran to maintain preparedness against threats.
Pointing to plans for a ground war game in the near future, the army chief stressed the need for uninterrupted research programs, training courses and maintenance of logistical arrangements in order to combat the hostile threats.
Last month, the Iranian army staged a large-scale exercise involving more than 150 advanced unmanned aircraft. Participated by troops from the four units of the army, namely the ground force, navy, air force and air defense force, a series of advanced drones manufactured by the army and the defense ministry in cooperation with local knowledge-based companies were flown in the drill that covered all areas across Iran.
