TEHRAN -- Two fast attack craft of the Iranian Navy have anchored in Baku to participate in the seventh edition of the “Sea Cup” contest, which is scheduled to be staged later this month as part of the International Army Games 2022.
A total of 78 Iranian Navy marines on board indigenously-manufactured Sina-class Joshan (Armor) and Paykan (Arrow) missile boats arrived at the largest and busiest port of the Caspian Sea on Sunday and were officially welcomed by Azerbaijan’s naval units.
The Defense Ministry of the Republic of Azerbaijan officially announced in a statement the arrival of Iran’s strategic navy team in the Azeri capital.
The “Sea Cup” contest is held every year with the participation of naval forces from the Caspian Sea littoral states.
Azerbaijan hosts the competition this year, with the participating naval teams going to emphasize the achievements of peace and friendship in the region throughout the tournament.
The event reportedly includes six stages of surface shooting, aerial shooting, mock mine shooting, and buoy control at sea, and two stages of survival at sea and damage control.
Iran’s northern port city of Bandar Anzali hosted the sixth edition of the competition. Representatives from different countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan also participated.
The Iranian team finished in first place and lifted the trophy at the end of the contest.
