Qatari FM Hails Iran’s Logical Position in Talks

TEHRAN -- Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has reiterated Iran’s resolve to clinch an agreement for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
In a late Saturday phone call with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the two foreign ministers discussed the latest developments in their countries’ relations in various political, economic and consular sectors.
Touching on the talks between Iran and the remaining parties to the JCPOA, Amir-Abdollahian emphasized the Iranian government’s determination to achieve a good, strong and durable agreement for the revival of the landmark deal.
The Qatari foreign minister, for his part, underlined Iran’s logical positions during the JCPOA revival talks, stressing the importance of continued talks aimed at removing the sanctions imposed on Iran over its peaceful nuclear program.
On Wednesday, Iran’s foreign minister told European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell that Tehran welcomes continuation of the path of diplomacy aimed at reaching an agreement on the removal of sanctions and the revival of the JCPOA, while urging the U.S. to be “realistic.”
The top Iranian diplomat said the U.S. constantly claims it is in favor of an agreement, but that claim “should manifest itself in the text of the agreement and in action”.
On the same day, Amir-Abdollahian had phone calls with his counterparts from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, and Iraq, saying Tehran is serious about reaching a durable and strong agreement on the revival of the JCPOA.
The top Iranian diplomat explained the initiatives that Iran has come up with in order to “keep the diplomatic window of opportunity open”.
