Iran U-17 Greco-Roman Wrestling Team Crowned World Champion
ROME, Italy – Iran U-17 Greco-Roman wrestling team has claimed the title of the 2022 World Cadets Wrestling Championships.
The Iranian team won a gold, two silver and four bronze medals in the competition in Rome, Italy.
Ali Ahmadi Vafa defeated Indian Ronit Sharma in the final bout of 48kg.
Muhammadreza Gholami lost to Uzbekistan’s Aytjan Khalmakhanov in the 51kg final bout.
Ahoura Bouveiri Piani also seized a silver after losing to American wrestler Joel Richard Adams in the 65kg final.
Payam Ahmadi Balootaki in the 45kg, Reza Azarshab in the 80kg, Hamidreza Keshtkar in the 92kg and Mohammad Shahram Jahangiri in the 110kg won four bronze medals for Iran.
Iran won the top honors with 135 points while Europe’s best team Azerbaijan finished second with 130 points.

President Congratulates U17 Wrestlers on Championship
President Ebrahim Raisi congratulated Iranian U17 Greco-Roman wrestlers on championship in Italy competitions.
Raisi issued the congratulatory message on Thursday in the wake of the Iranian team’s becoming champion in the U17 World Championships in Italy.
Iran’s team became champion with an aggregate of 135 scores. The Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia followed Iran respectively with 130 and 121 scores.
