IRGC Pushing to Acquire Advanced Weapons
TEHRAN -- The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) pursues plans to obtain advanced weapons, although it would not rely entirely upon them, its chief commander Major General Hussein Salami said on Sunday.
Addressing an IRGC conference, Gen. Salami said weapons play an effective role in wars, but the IRGC would not rely solely on weapons or expect them to do a miracle.
IRGC forces trust in God and consider their reliance in Allah as the key to victory, he added.
Gen. Salami also said the fact that the IRGC is the prime target of the U.S. and that Washington thought it had conquered the world after the martyrdom of General Qassem Soleimani reveals the greatness of the IRGC.
The top commander hailed IRGC commanders for their courage, saying that pious people do not give up and get stronger as they approach danger.
In remarks after unveiling two cavernous military bases accommodating missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles in March, Gen. Salami said what the Islamic Republic has relied upon is not arms, but faith, determination and persistence.
He also noted that Iran is in possession of sufficient amount of efficient weapons developed with homegrown technologies.
