War Animation Takes Part at Canada’s Nickel Independent
TEHRAN (IFILM) -- Iranian animation ‘White Whale’ has been screened at the Nickel Independent Film Festival in Canada.
Directed by Amir Mehran, the film represented Iran at the 2022 edition of the festival.
The eight-minute animation narrates the story of a war veteran who is trying to find the bodies of his soldier friends.
The man lost his fellow comrades during the war. Even though years have passed since the war ended, he is still searching for the location where he believes they were lost.
The short animated piece is a joint production between the director and Iran’s Documentary and Experimental Film Center (DEFC).
The crew includes character designer Abolfazl Boroumandi, set designer Naeem Azad, animator Jalal Naeemi and storyboard creator Ammar Qanbarzadeh.
The animation has so far participated in several international festivals, including the Cartoon Club – International Festival of Animation Cinema, Comics and Game – in Italy, the AnimArt Film Festival in Greece, the International festival of animated film “Constantine’s Gold Coin” in Serbia, and the Shanghai International Film Festival in China.
The Nickel Independent Film Festival was founded in 2001.
It is “a celebration of local and international independent film”, according to an online submission platform.
The latest edition of Nickel Independent Film Festival took place on June 13-19.
