BRICS Acknowledges Iran’s Role in Global Economic Equations

Iran, as one of the ancient nations of the world, has a special position, prestige, and power since time immemorial and this pride of place in the global community was further enhanced, following the triumph of the Islamic Revolution in 1979 and its emergence as an independent country that plays a vital role in international equations – to the sheer frustration of upstart and ephemeral entities that neither have history nor any future.
This undeniable fact became all the more evident yesterday when President Hojjat al-Islam Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi was invited to address the online summit of a powerful economic bloc – of which it is not a member – to the bewilderment of its enemies and their self-defeatist plots to politicize anything associated with Iran.
“We ought to take important coordinated steps towards realization of a human society with a common future while respecting the sovereignty of nations in order to thwart unilateralism and challenges, such as sanctions and coercive economic measures, in order to create and strengthen new institutions alongside the United Nations”, said the Iranian president in his online address as the only guest speaker to BRICS.
BRICS, which is an acronym of the first letters of a group of the world’s major emerging economies, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, in its concluding statement acknowledged the Islamic Republic of Iran’s indispensable role in regional and global interactions, by stressing:
“We reiterate the need to resolve the Iranian nuclear issue through peaceful and diplomatic means in accordance with the international law and emphasize the significance of presenting Iran’s nuclear deal as per United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 for nonproliferation.”
The declaration from Beijing at the end of the 14th BRICS Summit that stressed the prime position of Iran is yet another proof of the Islamic Republic’s role in global equations, in view of the fact that emerging economies in the grouping constitute half of the world’s population and account for nearly a quarter of the world’s gross domestic product.
President Raisi emphasized in his online address: The Islamic Republic can turn into a “sustainable partner” connecting the BRICS group of nations to energy hubs and giant markets around the globe given its unique political and economic geography.
He added: “We are ready to share all our capabilities and potentials, including short and cheap transportation and transit networks, the exceptional asset of trained manpower as well as significant scientific achievements to [help] BRICS achieve its goals.”
It is thus important for nations constituting BRICS to be cautious of the plots of the US and the former colonial powers, so that the group can play an effective role in advancing goals such as the development of South-South relations, amendments in the international financial system and presenting new ideas and initiatives.
