Russia: Turkey’s Possible Military Offensive in Syria Unwise

MOSCOW (Dispatches) –
Russia considers Turkey’s possible military incursion into Syria unwise as it could escalate and destabilize the situation, the RIA news agency cited Russia’s Syria envoy Alexander Lavrentyev as saying on Wednesday.
Lavrentyev also said Moscow no longer considered Geneva a suitable venue for talks between Syrians, according to the TASS agency.
The Russian envoy was in Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan on Wednesday for talks with Turkey, Iran, and the Syrian government and opposition forces.
Ankara says it must act in Syria because Washington and Moscow broke promises to push the predominantly Kurdish group YPG 30 km (18 miles) from the border after a 2019 Turkish offensive, and says attacks from YPG-controlled areas have increased.
Meanwhile, Lavrentyev has denounced the Zionist regime’s missile strikes against the war-ravaged country, stressing that such acts of aggression are “unacceptable.”
“We will certainly consider the issue of intensified strikes on Syrian territory by Israel. We think that we will also need to focus on this. This is unacceptable,” Lavrentyev said.
On Sunday, Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Efimov strongly condemned the latest Zionist missile attack on the Damascus International Airport, calling on the occupying regime to put an end to its vicious acts and naked aggression or await serious repercussions.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Arabic-language al-Watan daily, Efimov stated that such irresponsible moves pose great dangers to civilian aircraft and civil aviation, and that the Zionist regime must stop such wicked actions straight away.
The airport was targeted by a volley of missiles fired from the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights at approximately 4:20 a.m. local time (01:20 GMT) on Friday, state media reported.
