TEHRAN – Iran has signed a memorandum of understanding with Syria, and is going to ink another one with Iraq, in order to address problems caused by dust storms that are becoming more regular in the Middle East, the head of Iran’s Environmental Protection Organization (IEPO) said. IEPO chief Ali Salajeqeh said Iran and Syria are about to carry out a pilot plan in Dayr al-Zawr, the largest city in eastern Syria, to tackle dust storms. He also held extensive talks with Iraq’s prime minister, minister of environment, foreign minister, minister of interior, minister of agriculture and minister of water resources, all of whom hailed Iran’s regional initiative for joint action to tackle the problem.
