Foreign Minister Reiterates Iran’s Support for Palestine
TEHRAN – Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian has hit out at Israeli attacks on Palestinian worshipers in the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, reiterating Iran’s support for Palestine.
“Unfortunately, we bore witness to Zionists’ transgression on Al-Aqsa Mosque during the month of Ramadan,” he told his Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug during a phone call.
“We hope for the Palestinian nation to achieve its historical rights with the support of Muslim countries and nations,” he added.
More than 150 Palestinian worshipers were injured when Zionist forces stormed the compound in the holy occupied city of Al-Quds’ Old City on Fridayday. The Zionist regime has kept up its raids on the highly sensitive site besides cracking down on solidarity protests held throughout the occupied West Bank.
Amir-Abdollahian thanked Mauritania over its support for the oppressed Palestinian nation.
Turning to the issue of Yemen, the Iranian minister said Tehran welcomes ceasefire in Yemen,
hoping for complete removal of a Saudi-led siege on the impoverished country’s siege and resolution of its problem through dialogue.
Amir-Abdollahian also welcomed expansion of mutual ties with Mauritania, insisting that the Islamic Republic favors enhancement of bilateral relations with African nations.
The Mauritanian official, for his part, laid emphasis on his country’s support for Palestine.
He also hailed relations with Tehran as strong, saying Nouakchott welcomes further development of relations as well as the Islamic Republic’s cooperation towards development of Mauritania’s infrastructure.
