Winner Shortlisted for Competition in Poland

THERAN -- Iranian short flick ‘Winner’ has been selected to compete at the 7th edition of the KINOLAB film festival in Poland.
Directed by Ali Keivan and produced by Hamed Rahnama, the short film is about a boy named Vahid whose father bought a bicycle for him to take part in a competition, but it is similar to the stolen bicycle of Vahid’s friend.
The cast list of the film includes Ilia Mashayekhi, Kian Davoudi-Azad, Jamal Foadian, Reza Nili, Akhtar Khoshkar, Sajjad Tajik, and Taha Najafpour.
‘Winner’ has previously won several awards, including an honorary diploma at the 51st Roshd International Film Festival Awards in Iran.
According to the official website of the KINOLAB, “it is a film-discussion platform focused on current socio-political topics, which in the form of film and subsequent discussions with experts allows the audience to look into areas that are not socially discussed and encourages them to actively think critically”.
The upcoming edition of the festival will be held in June.
The Myrtle Beach International Film Festival (MBIFF) in the U.S. will also screen Iranian movie ‘Expediency’.
Written and directed by Hussein Darabi and produced by Muhammad-Reza Shafah, the movie has been accepted to compete at the 17th edition of the U.S. event.
‘Expediency’ is a police and crime movie that narrates the events of the late 1970s in Iran.
“The revolution of 1979 has just won. The son of one of the senior officials of the judicial system of the Iranian revolution is arrested in a suspicious conflict that leads to the death of one of the opponents of the revolution. Now the son’s case must be pursued in a system in which the father has power,” its synopsis reads.
The cast list of the film includes Farhad Qaemian, Vahid Rahbani, Mehdi Husseininia, Majid Norouzi, Amir Norouzi, Mehdi Farizeh, Ali Delpisheh, and Nazanin Farahani.
‘Expediency’ was nominated in seven categories at the 39th edition of the Fajr Film Festival, where it won the honorary diploma for the best director of the first film.
The MBIFF has been awarded several prestigious awards, including one of the “Top 25 film festivals worth the entry fee” by MovieMaker Magazine.
The 2022 edition of the event will be held on April 19-23.
