Death Toll From South Africa Floods Rises to 443
JOHANNESBURG (Dispatches) -- The death toll from floods in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province this week now stands at 443, with 63 people missing, the premier of the province said on Sunday at a televised briefing.
President Cyril Ramaphosa – recalling the Covid-19 pandemic and the deadly July riots – described the floods as “a catastrophe of enormous proportions ... not seen before in our country”.
