Syria Intercepts Zionist Airstrikes Outside Damascus

DAMASCUS (Dispatches) – Syria’s air defenses have confronted airstrikes by the Zionist regime against the countryside of the Arab country’s capital of Damascus.
According to the official Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the development on Thursday night, citing a “military source.”
Syria’s anti-aircraft gunnery intercepted some of the incoming projectiles, while the rest landed in Damascus’ western countryside.
The missiles were reportedly fired from the direction of Syria’s Golan Heights occupied by the Zionist regime.
The source did not specify the exact target of the offensive but said the attack resulted only in “some material damage.”
Syria and the occupying regime are technically at war due to the latter’s 1967-to-present occupation of the Golan Heights.
The occupying regime maintains a significant military presence in the territory, which it uses as one of its launchpad for attacks against the Syrian soil.
The regime’s attacks on Syria started to grow significantly in scale and frequency after 2011, when Syria found itself in the grip of rampant foreign-backed terrorism.
In early March, the occupying regime launched a missile attack over the Syrian capital Damascus, killing at least two civilians.
A similar attack in the vicinity of Damascus on February 24 left three soldiers killed.
Last week, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad slammed a Zionist missile attack, which targeted the town of Masyaf in the central province of Hama, saying Damascus reserves the right to give a proper and lawful response to the aggression.
In a Sunday message of protest to the United Nations Secretary General António Guterres, the Syrian foreign minister added that his country would respond to the Zionist aggression by appropriate means recognized by international law and the United Nations Charter.
He warned that continued Zionist attacks against Syria have reached a “systematic” level, stressing the need for swift action by the General Secretariat and the Security Council in order to protect and preserve the Agreement on Disengagement signed between Israel and Syria in 1974 under the UN auspices.
