NITC Orders 113,000-Ton Tanker to Local Builders
TEHRAN -- The CEO of the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Hussein Shiva on Monday announced that his company has ordered construction of an Aframax tanker to domestic companies.
Shiva pointed to the company’s new round of support for domestic industries and companies, and said: “In line with the emphasis of the Supreme Leader and the realization of domestic support, the order to build an Aframax tanker has been given to the Iranian Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex (ISOICO) in Bandar Abbas and its contract will be signed soon.”
He announced the capacity of the tanker as 113,000 tons, and added: “According to the order of NITC, this tanker will be the first domestically built hybrid vessel fueled with liquefied natural gas (LNG) and low sulfur fuel oil (less than 0.5%).”
The CEO of the National Iranian Tanker Company continued: “This Aframax tanker, which is environmentally friendly and is designed and built according to the latest standards of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), will comply with phase three of the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI).”
Shiva stated that by ordering and building this tanker, “we will see the creation of several thousand jobs in the shipbuilding industry and the prosperity of ancillary and related industries in this industry.”
He also underlined the seriousness of NITC in repairing the company’s fleet inside the country, and noted, “So far, the repair of 24 tankers and barges has been entrusted to domestic yards, which is aimed at supporting domestic industries and creating jobs.”
