Choppers Equipped With Night-Vision Systems, Missiles

TEHRAN – The airborne
division of the Iranian army’s ground force has equipped its fleet of helicopters with night-vision systems and powerful missiles, a ranking commander said on Saturday.
Commander of the division General Yousef Qorbani said the missiles can hit their targets several kilometers away.
He said domestic knowledge-based companies have assisted the army to manufacture military equipment and advanced weaponry.
The commander warned the enemies that the Islamic Republic is monitoring all movements with modern equipment and vigorously maintains the country’s deterrent power.
Iran’s armed forces, he added, have safeguarded security along the country’s borders.
Separately, Iranian Navy commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani said a flotilla of Iranian warships is escorting the country’s trade vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
The commander said the Navy’s 80th flotilla comprises the Dena destroyer, Bandar Abbas logistic-combat warship and Tunb auxiliary warship.
The Iranian military ships are currently carrying out an operation in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, he said, adding naval forces escort Iranian trade vessels and oil tankers in the areas.
A number of Navy cadets also receive training aboard the three military ships.
Admiral Irani said the flotilla may make port calls at a number of friendly and neighboring states during the overseas mission.
In line with international efforts against piracy, the Iranian navy has been conducting patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008, safeguarding merchant containers and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran or other countries.
