TEHRAN -- A senior Iranian police
officer has been martyred in a terrorist attack in the country’s southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan during an ambush by unidentified assailants.
Colonel Alireza Shahraki, chief of the Iranian Police Criminal Investigation (CID) Department in Saravan County, was fatally shot after gunmen sprayed bullets on his car in an early morning ambush at a crossroad, Iran’s Nour News reported on Sunday.
Governor of Saravan, Saeed Tajlili, said Shahraki’s wife was also seriously wounded in the incident and was transferred to the hospital to receive medical treatment. Authorities later said she had succumbed to her injuries.
The gunmen fled the scene in a car after the driving-by shooting.
