Monitor: Missile Targets Largest U.S. Base in Syria
DAMASCUS (Xinhua) – A
missile struck the vicinity of the largest U.S. base in Syria in the eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr on Friday night, a war monitor reported.
The missile landed near the al-Omar oil field, which has been taken by the United States as its military base, and no casualties were reported, said the UK-based so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
There has been no immediate comment from the U.S. forces or the Syrian government about the latest attack.
On July 28, the U.S. troops in al-Omar field fired several missiles. No casualties were reported in the strike.
In another development, up to 291 Syrian soldiers and Daesh terrorists were killed in confrontations between the two sides since the beginning of this year, the war monitor reported on Friday night.
The death toll includes 136 members of Daesh terrorists killed by Russian airstrikes in desert regions of the provinces of Homs, Sweida, Hama, Raqqah, Dayr al-Zawr and Aleppo, said the Observatory.
The Britain-based watchdog group said that 155 Syrian soldiers and pro-government fighters were also killed in 57 attacks and ambushes by the foreign-backed Daesh terrorists in the desert regions.
The Daesh has lost key areas in Syria, but remnants of the group are still present in the country’s desert region, resulting in frequent attacks on Syrian military positions and vehicles.
