IRGC Dismantles Terrorist Network in Northwest

TEHRAN -- Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) says it has disbanded a team of terrorists in the country’s northwestern province of West Azarbaijan.
Servicemen from Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada base ambushed the terrorists on Friday as they were trying to infiltrate the country from the province’s Salmas County, the IRGC said in a statement.
A considerable amount of weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment were also seized, added the statement. No IRGC serviceman was killed or injured during the operation.
Iranian forces frequently engage in clashes with terrorist outfits or carry out operations against them near the country’s western and eastern borders.
On May 10, the IRGC disbanded a terrorist group in Kordestan province in western Iran.
The Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada base announced in a statement at the time that its forces had identified and dismantled an armed terrorist team in Baneh County of the province.
The IRGC forces detained five members of the terrorist team, who were trying to infiltrate the country and commit acts of sabotage, the statement said.
A number of shotguns and ammunition were also seized from the terrorists, it added.
