Official Raps UN Rights Body Over New Anti-Iran Envoy

TEHRAN – A Judiciary official has denounced the appointment of a special UN human rights rapporteur for Iran as a politically motivated move with the purpose of imposing political pressures on Tehran.
Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy Judiciary chief for international affairs and secretary of the country’s High Council for Human Rights, held a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet on the sidelines of the 49th UN Human Rights Conference on Human Rights in Geneva.
The Iranian official said the appointment of the UN rapporteur on Iran on the basis of false reports has practically turned into a political instrument that acts beyond the entire defined rules of the UN human rights rapporteurs.
He said Iran will continue to improve the level of observing the human rights on the basis of the Constitution and the rules in Islamic jurisprudence, IRNA reported.
Gharibabadi also noted that the Universal Periodic Review is the best way to improve the level of observation of the human rights in the countries.
The Universal Periodic Review (UPR) is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all UN Member States.
Gharibabadi said that in addition to the UPR, Iran had during the course of the past 18 months prepared a report on its observation of the UN 2020 proposals on observation of the human rights, which will be presented to the ongoing UN Human Rights Council.
He said the Special UN Rapporteur has turned into a channel for disseminating false news of the terrorist groups, whose hands are stained with the blood of the Iranian nation.
Gharibabadi presented a long list of 12,000 signatures by the people who have been harmed due to the terrorist acts of MKO members.
Gharibabadi on Monday attended the UN High Commission on Human Rights and elaborated on Iran’s stances.
