TEHRAN – Iran’s Judiciary deputy chief for international affairs Kazem Gharibabadi on Wednesday declared the end of the third meeting of a joint investigation committee probing the assassination of top anti-terror commander Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and his companies in Baghdad.
Gharibabadi said the Iraqi side presented some of the documents requested by Iran regarding the terrorist act.
The two states issued a joint statement at the end of the talks in which they agreed to accelerate and continue mutual cooperation on exchanging additional documents and information and to advance judicial cases to ensure justice in this criminal act.
They also emphasized completing their investigations into various aspects of the crime and bringing perpetrators to justice as quickly as possible.
The statement said Iran and Iraqi will “take all necessary measures to prosecute and punish all those involved, including the decision-makers, plotters, and executors of this criminal act”.
The U.S. assassinated General Soleimani, the commander of the Qods Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the former commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), along with their companions at Baghdad airport on January 3, 2021 on the direct order of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
