Moroccans Warn of Threats of ‘Security’ Ties With Zionists
RABAT (Dispatches) – The Federation of the Democratic Left in Morocco has warned of the dangers of normalizing ties with the occupying regime of Israel, particularly with regard to the new ‘security’ agreements signed with the regime.
“On the occasion of the first anniversary of signing the ominous normalization agreement concluded between Morocco and the racist Zionist entity under the auspices of the United States on 22 December 2021. This agreement carries real dangers for the future of Morocco and the Maghreb region,” a statement by the bloc said.
It went on to call for protests to “denounce normalization and to call for its abolition and that of all subsequent military and security agreements concluded with the Zionist entity, which represent a dangerous precedent within the Arabian region.”
Zionist war minister Benny Gantz visited the Moroccan capital Rabat last month and signed a number of memoranda of understanding for cooperation in different fields such as espionage, war industries, cybersecurity and joint training. Israeli media report that a deal was also concluded whereby the occupying regime would sell drones and weapons to Morocco.
The Federation of the Democratic Left is an alliance between Socialist Democratic Vanguard Party and the National Ittihadi Congress, it has two seats in parliament.
On 10 December, the occupying regime and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations, following their suspension in 2000. In return, the U.S. agreed to recognize Morocco’s sovereignty over the Western Sahara.
Many countries and institutions around the world have denounced the normalization deal. Palestinian have called it “a stab in the back” and the betrayal of the Palestinian cause.
