Thousands Stage Anti-Gov’t Protest Outside UK Parl’t
LONDON (Yahoo News) – Thousands of protesters marched to the UK parliament on Saturday in a demonstration for Palestinian rights and other left-leaning causes.
Attendees at the ‘Peoples Assembly’ rally also chanted slogans and held up signs supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, opposing the UK government, calling for action on climate change, demanding better pay for nurses, and other causes. Protesters called for an end to the occupation of Palestinian land and what they called the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.
It was one of several protests happening in London on Saturday, against coronavirus restrictions, climate change and other causes.
The protesters also descended on London’s Hyde Park afternoon in the latest round of protests against Covid lockdown measures.
The crowds marched through Oxford Street before gathering at Hyde Park while holding banners, placards and flags.
Crowds set off flares and chanted loudly with people heard shouting “shame on you” and pointing towards Number 10, followed by prolonged booing.
Shirley Jones, a librarian from Crystal Palace, said: “I’d rather be doing something else with my weekend but I’m going to keep coming on these protests because I don’t trust what the government is doing.
