Syrian Air Defenses Intercept Zionist ‘Rocket Aggression’
Latakia (Dispatches) – Syrian air defenses downed several missiles launched by the Zionist regime during pre-dawn raids on the Mediterranean port city of Latakia, the Syrian army said on Wednesday.
Syrian news agency SANA reported on Wednesday that some explosions were heard on the coast, near the cities of Latakia and Tartous.
The explosions were caused by air missile defense systems "confronting enemy targets” while responding to what was described as "Israeli aggression,” according to the report.
The missiles targeted Al-Haffah areas in Latakia and Masyaf, west of the Hama governorate. According to SANA, the airstrike targeted a civilian warehouse of plastic materials in the countryside.
The governor of Latakia said one civilian was killed in the attack and six others were wounded. Citing a military source, the agency also said that some of the rockets were intercepted by the air defense systems.
The military source also confirmed that one civilian died as a result of the airstrike and six were injured, including a child and his mother. In addition, there were "some material losses”.
Footage from the attack showed a large fire and several loud explosions at the scene.
The Zionist regime’s air assault was the first on Syria since Tel Aviv claimed last month that a "Syrian missile” had landed near the top-secret Dimona nuclear site in the southern part of the occupied territories.
The regime admitted that its so-called Iron Dome missile system had failed to intercept the missile.
The regime’s military said back then that in response to the alleged launch, it attacked several missile batteries in neighboring Syria, most of which were intercepted and downed by the air defenses of the Arab country.
The occupying regime frequently targets military positions inside Syria, especially those of the resistance movement Hezbollah, which has played a key role in helping the Syrian army in its fight against foreign-backed terrorists since 2011.
