Palestinian Prisoner Freed After 35 Years in Zionist Regime’s Prison
RAMALLAH (Dispatches) – The Zionist regime’s authorities on Monday released Palestinian detainee Rushdi Abu Mokh, 58, after serving 35 years in prison.
Abu Mokh, from the predominantly Arab city of Baqa al-Gharbiyye, was detained in 1986, along with three colleagues, on charges of joining a resistance cell belonging to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
The cell was blamed for the abduction of a Zionist trooper and attempting to relocate him outside the Palestinian territories to use him as a bargaining chip in any prisoner swap with the occupying regime.
Abu Mokh was handed a life sentence by the occupying regime before the sentence was reduced to 35 years in prison.
According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society, the regime has refused to release Abu Mokh and his colleagues in any prisoner swap deal with Palestinian resistance groups.
The occupying regime is still holding 25 Palestinians, who were detained before the Oslo Accords.
According to Palestinian estimates, there are 4,400 Palestinian detainees in the regime’s prisons, including 39 women and 155 children, and around 350 being held under the regime’s so-called administrative detention policy, which allows holding Palestinians without charge or trial.
Meanwhile, marking Palestine Children’s Day, the Palestine Prisoners’ Club revealed that there are 140 Palestinian children in the Zionist regime’s jails, including two under ‘administrative detention’.
According to the Defense for Children International-Palestine, every year between 500 and 700 Palestinian children are prosecuted by the occupying regime in military courts.
Until the end of March 2021, human rights groups have counted 230 Palestinian children detained by the occupation regime, mostly from al-Quds.
