Tehran, Kabul Joint Production Competes in U.S.

TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The Santa Barbra International Film Festival (SBIFF) in the U.S. has scheduled to show Iranian-Afghan documentary ‘The Forbidden Strings’.
Hassan Nouri’s feature-length film will be screened at the Documentary Competition section of the American film event.
‘The Forbidden Strings’ tells the story of four young Afghans living in Iran. They spend their daytime working and take the night time to rehearse their music.
They have a burning passion for performing in front of an audience. After about six months of practice, they find an opportunity to go on stage in Afghanistan.
Their trip back to their motherland, where they have never seen before, is not easy and the country is not safe for them.
The joint production of Iran, Afghanistan and Qatar, has been produced by Iranian producer Afsaneh Salari.
The doc has already been screened at a number of global events, including the Cinema Verite in Iran and the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
Besides Nouri’s film, two Iranian short films ‘Fox Shadow’ directed by Noushin Meraji and Sajjad Shah-Hatami ‘Identibye’ have also been picked to take part in this year’s edition of the SBIFF.
The SBIFF not only is a venue for independent films to be showcased, but also a chance for filmmakers to educate themselves, as the event offers many free educational programs.
This year’s edition of the fest is slated for March 31- April 10.
