Official Urges EU Powers to Stop Detaining Iranians

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – Head of the Iranian Judiciary’s High Council for Human Rights has called on the three European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal to stop their arbitrary detention of Iranian citizens if they are truly concerned about human rights.
In a post on his Twitter account, Ali Baqeri Kani deplored the European troika –France, the UK and Germany- for "fake expression of concern about human rights”.
"Are European signatories of JCPOA concerned about human rights? Better they end the arbitrary detention of Iranian citizens accused of ‘legal act’ of ignoring the ‘illegal’ U.S. sanctions,” the Iranian official said.
He also named Sajjad Shahidian and Hamid Kiasati, two Iranian citizens arrested in Europe on charges of violating unilateral U.S. sanctions on the Islamic Republic.
The three EU parties to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) have refused to honor their commitments since the U.S. government withdrew from the agreement in 2018.
France, Germany and the UK have instead called for a new deal with Iran, insisting that human rights issues and missile capabilities should be discussed with Tehran.
