Yemen Launches Drone Strikes Against Saudi Abha Airport: Spokesman

SANA’A (Dispatches) – Yemen’s army troops have carried out fresh drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport in retaliation for the kingdom’s ongoing aggression against the war-torn Arab country, the spokesman for Yemeni Armed Forces announced.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement posted on his Twitter page on Sunday that the Yemeni army used two domestically-manufactured Sammad-3 (Invincible-3) combat drones as well as a Qasef-2K (Striker-2K) in the operation, stressing that the unmanned aerial vehicles struck the designated targets with great precision.
He noted that the airstrikes come within Yemen’s legitimate right to respond to the Saudi-led coalition’s raids and military escalation as well as its continued all-out siege against Yemeni people.
"Once again, we warn citizens to stay away from airports and other places used for military activities,” he said.
A member of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council said a day earlier, Yemen’s army forces and their allied fighters from Popular Committees will continue to carry out attacks deep inside Saudi Arabia and its regional allies as long as they press ahead with their aggression
"Once the Saudi-led coalition takes a decisive action to stop its bombardment campaign against Yemen, attacks against members of the alliance will cease in return,” Lebanon-based al-Mayadeen television quoted Mohammed Ali al-Houthi as saying on Saturday evening.
"We are ready to stop bombing the other side if the bombardment of Yemen discontinues. Up until now, Yemen’s bombardment has continued by means of U.S.-, British- and European-made warplanes and clashes are still in progress,” he said.
Saudi Arabia and its allies launched the protracted war and siege against Yemen in March 2015, hoping to re-install former Riyadh-friendly Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and crush the popular Ansarullah movement in a few weeks.
The war, however, is nearing its sixth anniversary, while Saudi Arabia has failed to reach any of its goals, and instead, turned Yemen into the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, with hundreds of thousands of Yemenis dead and many others facing famine and starvation.
Brigadier General Yahya Saree said Saturday army troops targeted Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport in a retaliatory drone strike against Riyadh’s ongoing war and siege on Yemen.
He wrote in a tweet that the attack was carried out by the Yemeni Army’s UAV unit on Saturday afternoon, adding that a "Samad 3” drone was used in the operation.
Meanwhile, the spokesman for Yemen’s popular Ansarullah movement stressed the need for an end to the Saudi aggression as well as the lifting of the crippling blockade on Yemen.
"We have repeatedly stated that our military operations are entirely defensive, and will continue until the onslaught comes to an end and the siege is lifted,” Mohammed Abdul-Salam was quoted as saying by al-Masirah television network.
He added that any statement, no matter how positive it might be, is meaningless as long as no practical step is taken to establish peace.
