Award-Winning Iranian Movies Screened at U.S. Museum
TEHRAN (IFILM) -- The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) in the U.S. has been screening award-winning Iranian feature ‘Careless Crime’.
Shahram Mokri’s film has been on screen at the museum since January 22 during a program called Festival of Films from Iran.
In addition to ‘Careless Crime’, the virtual event is hosting six other Iranian movies, including ‘Dance with Me’ by Soroush Sehhat, ‘The Slaughterhouse’ by Abbas Amini, and Manijeh Hekmat’s ‘Bandar Band’.
According to the official website of the MFAH, Mokri, the director of the flick will sit for an online talk with Godfrey Cheshire, a film critic, on February 04. The talk will be followed by a Q&A session through which the audience could ask some questions from the Iranian filmmaker.
Going back to forty years ago, the movie’s story starts during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.
Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.
In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.
Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals also decide to burn down a movie theater.
Produced by Negar Eskanadarfar and Karnameh Institute of Arts and Culture, the flick is starring Babak Karimi, Razieh Mansouri and Abolfazl Kahani.
‘Careless Crime’ was premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.
Ever since, the film has taken part in various global events, including the Sharjah Film Platform in the UAE, the MedFilm Festival in Italy and the Tokyo FILMex International Film Festival in Japan.
