Does Iran Need Pact or Permission for Development, Defence?

By: Kayhan Int’l Staff Writer

The Islamic Republic is neither the Iran of the later Qajarids who looked to Britain for protection, nor the Iran of the upstart Pahlavis, who were merely the appointees of London and then Washington – without the least legitimacy to rule the people.
Gone are the days when the rulers of Iran were either immersed in personal pleasures without the least regard to the interests of the Iranian people, or were totally unattached to the Islamic aspirations of the Iranian people with a mission from their masters in the West to subvert the religion and culture of the country.
Imam Khomeini (RA), who ably guided the grassroots movement of the Iranian Muslim people to victory in 1979, totally transformed the nation and made it independent in the real sense of the term, to the extent that today Iran is not just not dependent on Global Arrogance, but it also does not require any permission from them or a pact with them for national development and defence.
In the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, the Late Imam has a worthy successor whose administrative acumen and political prudence over the past three decades has ensured that Iran in line with the interests and aspirations of its people, will spare no efforts to master all fields of science and technology such as nuclear energy, aerospace, artificial intelligence, cyber sphere, and medicines (including Coronavirus antidotes), as well as safeguarding the stability of the neighbourhood by assisting governments and popular movements in defeating terrorism and the destabilization attempts of the former colonialists.
On Friday, during his televised speech to the nation, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei saved the country from possible health hazard by ruling that no Covid vaccine should be imported from the West in view of the ineffectiveness of their medical products as well as their deliberate supply of contaminated drugs to Iran – as was the case of France’s HIV-tainted blood supplies a decade ago.
On the issue of the so-called Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA) which the US unilaterally breached, while the three European signatories to it (France, Germany and Britain) never honoured their commitments, he said, "They talk about the US returning to it. We, however, do not insist on this at all and we are in no rush for the US to return to the JCPOA. This is not the issue for us whether the US rejoins or not. If the sanctions are not lifted, then the US’ return to the JCPOA might even be to our disadvantage.”
Words of wisdom indeed regarding a flawed accord which seems dead as a dodo and brought no benefits to Iran except for release of a few dollars of its own illegally frozen assets in the West.
It is worth noting that during the negotiations in Geneva in 2015, Iranian negotiators were outwitted by the crafty Americans to agree to reduce uranium enrichment from 20 percent purity to a mere 3.67 in return for no concessions from the opposite side, and moreover handing the US president the veto to approve the deal every three months.
The Leader referred to Iran’s missile capabilities on the first anniversary of the highly accurate Iranian missile strike on the US’ Ayn al-Assad airbase in Iraq as a prelude to the vengeance awaiting the Americans for their unpardonable crime in assassinating the icon of anti-terrorism, General Qassem Soleimani.
He rightly remarked: "The enemy has no choice but to take into account our country’s power when making military decisions.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also made it clear that there is no question of withdrawal of Iranian advisors from neighbouring countries, in view of their effective role in eliminating the causes of instability, such as ridding the Syrian and Iraqi people from the macabrely murderous takfiri terrorists.
In short, irrespective of the change of guard at the White House, the Islamic Republic will continue its path towards the pinnacles of progress with a view to its development in all fields, including state-of-the-art military hardware in the interests of the Iranian people and their aspirations to help the friendly and fraternal nations of the region enjoy peace and stability by driving out the terrorists of all hue and colour – whether state or non-state actors.
