Italian Teenager Jannik Sinner Wins ATP Title in Sofia

SOFIA (Xinhua) -- Italian teenager Jannik Sinner has won the fifth edition of the ATP 250 Sofia Open after beating Vasek Pospisil of Canada 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3) in the final.
It was the first ATP title for the 19-year-old Italian.
Thanks to this success, Sinner, who started the tournament as the No. 44 in the ATP rankings, will move to the 37th place in the world on Monday, his career high so far.
Meanwhile, he will pocket 24,880 euros of prize money.
On the road to the glory, Sinner beat Marton Fucsovics of Hungary 6-2, 6-4, Marc-Andrea Huesler of Switzerland 6-3, 6-4, the third seed Alex de Minaur of Australia 6-7, 6-4, 6-1, and the fifth seed Adrian Mannarino of France 6-3, 7-5.
"It is always special when you win the first tournament,” Sinner said at the post match press conference.
"Playing finals like this, 7-6 in the third... is always tough, but when you win, it is an even better win than winning 6-1 6-1,” Sinner said. "So, I am happy about the match today, and obviously about the victory of the tournament. It is a very special week for me,” he said.
Answering a question, Sinner said he hoped this title to be the first of many.
Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain won the first edition of the tournament in Sofia in 2016, Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria in 2017, Mirza Basic of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2018, and Daniil Medvedev of Russia last year.
