Bayern Edge Dortmund to Recapture Lead in Bundesliga

BERLIN (Dispatches) -- Bayern Munich have rallied back from one goal down to defeat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the Bundesliga, reclaiming the lead in the table.
David Alaba, Robert Lewandowski and Leroy Sane were on target for the German record champions.
Dortmund had the better start as Erling Haaland approached Bayern’s goal dangerously in the 17th and 21st minute.
Bayern thought they had opened the scoring three minutes later, but Lewandowski’s goal was ruled offside by VAR.
Just before the break, Dortmund stunned Bayern with the opener as Raphael Guerreiro exchanged passes with Marco Reus, who slotted home into the roof of the net to give German international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer no chance.
However, Dortmund’s joy was short-lived as Bayern restored parity in dying seconds of the first half through Alaba, whose deflected free-kick found the top-right corner.
After the interval, Bayern came out with guns blazing and made a perfect start to the second half after Lucas Hernandez’s pinpoint cross allowed Lewandowski to turn the tide with a header from close range in the 48th minute.
Both sides continued to attack and remained dangerous as Kingsley Coman rattled the woodwork in the 51st minute before Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Burki denied the Frenchman two minutes later.
Haaland shrugged off Bayern defender Jerome Boateng before pulling wide from a tight angle moments later.
Neuer had to be on guard after Lucien Favre’s men increased the pressure, as Reus and Thorgan Hazard tested Bayern’s custodian in quick succession in the 70th minute.
Bayern showed their clinical nature in front of the goal, as joker Leroy Sane finished off Lewandowski’s assist into the bottom-left corner to make it 3-1 in the 80th minute.
It looked like Bayern had sealed the deal ahead of time, but Dortmund’s prolific striker Haaland kept the game alive after beating Neuer following Guerreiro’s pass into his path three minutes later.
Dortmund pressed for an equalizer and should have restored parity, but neither Haaland nor Reus was able to level the scores despite golden chances in the closing stages.
With the result, Bayern Munich top the table while Borussia Dortmund slip to third position.
