Iran, Russia Sign Agreement to Build Sirik Power Plant

TEHRAN (Dispatches) - the head of Iran’s Power Plants projects Behnam Khaefinejad said on Saturday that Tehran and Moscow have clinched a new agreement to construct Sirik Power Plant in Southern Hormozgan province, according to an official with Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company.
"Construction operation of this giant power plant project will begin soon using state-owned loan of the Russian Federation,” the head of Iran’s Power Plants projects Khaefinejad said, adding, "Given the introduction of new contractor by the Russian Energy Ministry for the construction of 1,400-MW Sirik Power Plant in Hormozgan province, talks started with this company since the beginning of the current year (March 20).”
"After 90 expert-level sessions, necessary agreement was finally reached with the Russian Company and the contract was signed between the two sides,” he added.
"Feasibility study for building the first phase of the project has been completed,” he said, adding, "Feasibility study for the launch of the second phase has been put on the agenda.”
"As per the agreement, the executive part of this project will be thoroughly carried out by Iranian contractors,” Khaefinejad said, adding, "Capability of domestic manufacturers will be used for supplying relevant parts and equipment.”
In relevant remarks in September, Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazzem Jalali and Russian Deputy Energy Minister Anatoly Tikhonov underlined the necessity for strengthening cooperation between the two energy kingpins.
