Iran Football League Postponed: Official

TEHRAN (Dispatches) –The 20th edition of the Iran Professional League has been postponed due to the concerns over the new wave of COVID-19 pandemic in Iran.
The caretaker president of the Sports Medicine Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (SMFIRI) Mohammad Asad Masjedi said that due to the COVID-19 spread, the federation has urged the Iranian Football Federation to call off the IPL for six days.
He noted that this is a directive, not a request. Masjedi noted that the SMFIRI will decide on other sporting events according to the conditions.
The 2020-21 IPL was originally scheduled to start on October 31 but will begin on November 6.
The total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 539,670 following the detection of 5,039 new cases since Monday, the Health Ministry’s spokesperson said Tuesday.
Sima Sadat Lari put the total death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 31,034.
