President Rouhani:

Plot to Cause Economic Collapse in Iran Thwarted

TEHRAN (Dispatches) – The Iranian administration has thwarted a U.S. plot to cause an economic collapse in Iran despite the currency crunch and intensified sanctions over the past two and a half years, President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday.
In comments at a meeting of the government’s economic coordination headquarters here, Rouhani said his administration’s good planning has prevented the U.S. from achieving the ominous goal.
Although the inhuman and illegal American sanctions have reduced Iran’s currency incomes over the past two and a half years, the administration has successfully fought off the American economic war, he said.
The president also stressed the need for political calm and solidarity at home, saying the enemies have capitalized on rifts and disagreements inside Iran as a facilitator of their aggressive economic war.
He called on all Iranian officials to exercise political wisdom to avoid disputes.
Iran has been under a series of sanctions imposed by the U.S. since 2018, when President Donald Trump withdrew Washington from the 2015 nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
The U.S. unleashed the so-called maximum pressure campaign and targeted the Iranian nation with the "toughest ever” restrictive measures in order to bring it to its knees, but Iran’s economy keeps humming and is getting back on its feet.
In September, the Trump administration failed to trigger the so-called snapback provision in the JCPOA aimed at re-imposing all UN sanctions against Iran.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) member states — including the remaining signatories to the Iran deal — challenged Washington’s rationale that it was still a participant state to the JCPOA.
