Hemmati: Iraq Agrees to Release Iranian Money

BAGHDAD (Kayhan Int’l Economic Desk) – Governor of the Central Bank of Iran Abdolnasser Hemmati said on Monday Iran and Iraq had reached an agreement on the release of Iranian assets held in the Arab country.  Hemmati arrived here early in the day to discuss the release of several billion dollars of the Iranian money from sales of gas and electricity which the country cannot repatriate because of U.S. sanctions. In a tweet later Monday, Hemmati said his talks with Iraqi officials were positive. "In these negotiations, especially in the joint tripartite meeting with the governors of the Central Bank of Iran and the Commercial Bank of Iraq, we reached good agreements to release the financial resources of the Central Bank and use it to secure the import of essential goods for our country,” he said.
